J.E. Miller

Author of the Remember Series

J. E. Miller is the author of Remember, Lest We Forget and Remember, Triple Zero Heroes. A Navy cadet, married to an Army serviceman, mother of an Air Force cadet, daughter of a Vietnam veteran, granddaughter of two WWII veterans, and great-niece of a WWI hero whose name is on the Roll of Honour at the Australian War Memorial, the author was honoured to tell the story of Remember, Lest We Forget. She wrote the first book in her Remember series as a way of showing gratitude, honouring those who served and continue to serve in the defence forces, but she wanted to do it with more than just words. She created a project that invited illustrators to donate their art through a competition, to accompany the many heart-felt stories in the book. Artists of all ages and experiences from Australia and the UK, and even veterans themselves, entered the illustration competition and were published in the book. A percentage of profits from book sales regularly goes to help past and present soldiers and their support networks.

The transition from defence members' stories to those of the domestic services was natural for Miller, who has served with the State Emergency Service since 2009. During this time, she has been part of critical incident response teams, attending natural disasters in Brisbane, Grantham, Tully, Bundaberg, and Kuranda. She is a floodboat operator, has been involved in missing persons and forensic searches, rescues, body retrievals, and has been awarded a Meritorious Commissioner's Commendation, State Meritorious Service Citation, State Meritorious Service Medal, and National Emergency Medal for significant service. These days she spends most of her time within SES training others in communication, leadership, first aid, risk assessment, and working at heights.

Miller holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, a Post Graduate Diploma in Education and a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology.

Miller is passionate about fostering compassion and understanding in our communities, through public speaking, school visits, and the characters she writes about. Book three is going to break boundaries.
